George Washington National Forest
If you enjoy quiet time in an unspoiled wilderness, take advantage of the George Washington National
Forest. Alleghany County is rich in wilderness adventure. Approximately 51% of the land in this county
and approximately 140,454 acres is National Forest, providing seemingly endless trails for horseback
riding, mountain biking, hunting, fishing and exploring.
Lake Moomaw
Just minutes away, take advantage of one of the most beautiful lakes anywhere. The shores around Lake
Moomaw are wild and natural and the huge variety of sport fish provides year-round angling. Made
famous for its trophy trout fishing, this lake boasts more varieties of fish than any like it in the east.
World Class Resorts
Travel north just 16 miles and you will find Virginia’s premiere mountain resort, The Homestead. Just
24 miles to the west and discover West Virginia’s legendary Greenbrier. Both offer world class tennis,
golf and equestrian facilities.
Douthat State Park
Just across the mountain, discover yet another hidden treasure. Beautiful Douthat State Park provides
access to scenic mountain trails, watersports, or just relaxing on the lake beach.
Allegheny Highlands
Within the Allegheny Highlands, you will find breathtaking sites like the Falling Spring Falls, historic

Historic Lewisburg

historic Lewisburg, West Virginia, located 35 miles west. Another community rich in history located just
